This week we're highlighting a track by the now disbanded Vancouver, British Columbia “cuddlecore” band Maow — featuring none other than alt-country legend, New Pornographer and honorary Canadian Neko Case.
Case was born in Virginia and grew up in Washington, but she began her music career playing in local Vancouver bands the Del Logs, the Propanes, the Weasels, Cub, and Maow.
Clocking in at an easy minute and fifty-two seconds, the album version of this cheeky song features a sample from the 1965 Peter Sellers film What's New Pussycat? The song's titular Ms. Lefevre is supposedly a reference to Capucine's Renée Lefevre character.
Neko played drums on Cub's first album Betti-Cola (1993).
New Pornographers covered Toronto’s “Your Daddy Don’t Know” for the 2002 Canadian film Fubar.
